The food is great and I hade a fantastic burger and fried pickles.
Do not be misled by the reviews of the former Blackwater restaurant thing. Barrels Brewhouse is a fine establishment. Decor inside is nice and rustic but still has lots of TVs up if you want to catch a game or show. The food was very good and the service was great. Many beer options from a variety of different local breweries. Well portioned and delightfully served flights are $12. Highly recommend.
The beer taps change out regularly with a mix of house brewed and local beers. A full bar rounds out a great place.

Service: Was quite good and received service with a smile :) Many of their food offerings are made from scratch so one has to keep in mind that service will not be extremely quick. Order up a Blackwater Brewery cold ones to pass the time. More than likely, you're visiting there and why worry about being in a hurry while on a vacation. It's good to relax and one cant expect to be served as fast as restaurants in a city when you're certainly not in a city lol
For a different take on traditional German fare, get the Brats and Pierogis. The brats are sliced and served in a very hearty beer gravy and the pierogis are deep fried and served on top. Fantastic!
Aesthetic Appeal & Atmosphere: Nice and inviting with an open floor plan. Beautiful wood on the walls give it a fine WV mountain atmosphere.
Vast improvement from my last visit here when it was Blackwater Brewing. I think someone with a restaurant background became a partner and told the BW Brewing guy to stick to making beer. Nice, open space with tables and bar. Good beer selection (all local stuff, which I like). Food was OK, I had garden pasta, the cream sauce was a little heavy for me (but hey, I do know I ordered a cream sauce) and my lady's black bean burger was a little bland (but it was clearly made in house, not frozen). Our server was very nice, but I feel had they been very busy she would have been overwhelmed.
Meal Quality: You gotta start it up with ordering a draft of Canaan Valley's finest brews by Blackwater Brewing! I personally go for the Kolsch or the porter. The brew sampler is quite good. The seasonal brews are quite nice too! I ordered some of their black truffle tater tots and their deep fried cauliflower for appetizers for our table. Whoa man those were incredibly delicious! I then ordered a veggie burger as the main entree and it was tasty, had the right amount of moistness, and flavored well. Call me addicted, but I went back to the well for more of those truffle tater tots for dessert afterwards! They also have a good kids menu for those with children.
